We in the AOC office are beyond thrilled that BadBadNotGood will be performing at this year’s festival! A music trio from Toronto, Canada, the group has beautifully blended jazz and hip hop like never seen before. The group includes Matthew Tavares on keys, Chester Hansen on bass, and Alexander Sowinski on drums. Known for their interpretations of hip hop tracks and their collaborations with Tyler The Creator, Frank Ocean, and Ghostface Killah, the group brings a whole new vibe to songs such as Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights”, Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag”, and has even dabbled in Gucci Mane remakes. Yeah, they’re that cool.
But, BadBadNotGood seems to get cooler by the month. Early last year, BadBadNotGood teamed up with legend Ghostface Killah for a single via Lex Records, titled”Six Degrees”. Finding a certain chemistry between Ghostface’s rhymes and the trio’s jazz-inspired approach, the collective has regrouped for a full-length album.
Due to be released next month, Sour Soul was recorded alongside producer Frank Dukes, who has produced for greats such as 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks. The duo have shared a track from the LP called ‘Ray Gun’, which also features MF DOOM. This latest track follows on from their previous single ‘Gunshowers’ (featuring Elzhi) released back in 2014.
BadBadNotGood’s jazzy sound takes hold of the track, with Ghostface Killah leading the charge for DOOM’s contribution. With many personalities involved, each member is allowed to present their aptitude before the track erupts into trumpets and drums.
